BLURB:

Dragged to a party for teenage film students, the author finds himself listening to a hippie chick talk about grass.

Stimulus Response:

I became trapped inside one of those behemoth shopping centres the other day (manoeuvring this way and that as if negotiating the advanced levels of an arcade game), and noted in passing a hairdressing salon where all the employees were wearing black shirts with slogans on the back:

"[SOMETHING OR OTHER]
SOLUTIONS FOR A TOXIC
FREE WORLD."

The intended meaning of which I took to be a world that is toxic-free, rather than a free world that is toxic. So perhaps a hyphen might have been the way to go. Particularly as whoever had designed the shirt had ended one line with 'toxic' and left the 'free world' hanging all by itself on the next. Or maybe that's the point: they're using deadly chemicals and hiding it all behind a nefarious facade of transparency. Utterly barbarous.
